Chess has evolved from being solely a game played for enjoyment to now offering significant career opportunities. Players can now earn through sponsorships, endorsement deals, appearance fees, and prize money, which serve as direct rewards for their skills and achievements in the game.
Moreover, there are numerous indirect rewards available to chess players, such as scholarships offered by various State and Central Universities worldwide. These scholarships often come with additional benefits like reservation in government jobs and opportunities to represent corporate entities. It is important to note that not all chess players are eligible for these rewards, as they are contingent upon individual performance.
The World Chess Federation (FIDE) assesses players’ performance and assigns ratings accordingly. Additionally, FIDE grants prestigious titles to players based on their accomplishments, further enhancing their recognition and opportunities within the chess community.
